The Midland Volunteers For Recycling (MVFR) will be participating again in the July Michigan Antique and Collectible Festival.  This second Festival will be held on July 24th and 25th, and will be open on Saturday 8am-6pm and Sunday 8am-4 pm.

MVFR’s Kid’s Craft area will again feature recycled crafts!  MVFR staff and volunteers will be available to educate visitors on the benefits of waste reduction, reuse, and recycling.  Information and displays will be available about the various recycling programs available in the greater Midland County area.  MVFR recycling collection containers will be located all around the fairgrounds to collect bottles and cans.  Volunteers will also collect cardboard and other recyclables from the vendors.

At the Festival in June, local Girl Scouts were on hand to assist with the crafts.  Children were invited to decorate a repurposed container such as a yogurt cup or butter tub.  They used these containers to plant a Marigold flower to take home.  Coffee can type lids were also available for the children to create wind-spinners.  The participants even came up with their own designs using star, square, and triangle shapes.  On Saturday, many families appreciated the respite from the heat while their children made crafts and learned about MVFR’s recycling programs.

“Last spring’s recycling program at the June Antique Festival was very successful” said Esther Seaver, Director of the Midland Volunteers For Recycling, “We collected approximately 1,000 pounds of cardboard, several hundred plastic bottles, leftover flyers and newsletters and a variety of other materials - plastic bags, polystyrene foam, and aluminum pie plates.”
